Romanian Language Preparatory Year Programme for Foreign Citizens

The Romanian Language Preparatory Year Programme is organised by “Dimitrie Cantemir” University of Târgu Mureș as a full-time, one-year programme (2 semesters), 60 ECTS credits.

Maximum enrolment capacity: 50 students/year

Tuition-based programme

The programme provides Romanian language training for students intending to continue their studies in Romanian, including specialised language training in the fields for which the programme is accredited.

Admission procedure

The admission procedure consists of:
1. online submission of the application file to “Dimitrie Cantemir” University of Târgu Mureș;
2. verification of the application file by the University Admission Committee;
3. internal selection of eligible candidates, subject to the available places;
4. completion of the recognition/acceptance procedure applicable to the candidate’s citizenship status;
5. final enrolment after all legal and administrative requirements have been fulfilled.

A. EU / EEA / Swiss citizens

This category also includes United Kingdom citizens and their family members who are beneficiaries of the Withdrawal Agreement, where applicable.
Candidates in this category are subject to the recognition/equivalence of their previous studies by the Romanian National Centre for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (CNRED).
Final enrolment in the Romanian Language Preparatory Year Programme is conditional upon obtaining the CNRED Recognition/Equivalence Certificate, in accordance with the applicable Romanian legislation.
A Letter of Acceptance to Studies under the procedure applicable to third-country nationals is not required for this category.

B. Non-EU / Third-country nationals

After the application file has been verified and the candidate has been declared eligible/admitted by the University, “Dimitrie Cantemir” University of Târgu Mureș submits the required documentation to the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research for the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance to Studies.
Final enrolment is conditional upon the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance to Studies and compliance with all other legal requirements applicable to third-country nationals.
Where required by Romanian immigration legislation, the candidate must also complete the applicable visa and residence formalities.

5. birth certificate;
6. passport / national identity document / travel document, as applicable;
7. high school graduation diploma (Baccalaureate diploma) or, where applicable, the diploma corresponding to the previous cycle of studies, according to the level of studies the candidate intends to pursue after completing the Preparatory Year;
8. certificate confirming successful completion of the final examination, for candidates who graduated in the current year and have not yet received their final diploma;
9. academic transcript(s) / Diploma Supplement / Transcript of Records, as applicable;
10. marriage certificate or other official document proving a change of name, where applicable;
11. medical certificate issued in the candidate’s country of residence, confirming that the candidate does not suffer from contagious diseases or other medical conditions incompatible with university studies;
12. for minor candidates only: written consent of the parents or legal guardian regarding the minor’s stay in Romania for study purposes;
13. proof of payment of the admission application fee and the application processing fee.

Non-EU / third-country nationals must additionally submit the Application for the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance to Studies.

Documents issued abroad must be apostilled/authenticated and accompanied by authorised/legalised translations, where required by the applicable legislation.

The University may request additional documents where necessary for the recognition/acceptance procedure.

Fees – academic year 2026–2027

Fees may be paid:

1. By bank transfer / internet banking

The payment details must include:
• Beneficiary: UDC;
• type of fee (admission application fee / application processing fee / tuition fee);
• Romanian Language Preparatory Year Programme;
• candidate’s surname and given name(s), as stated in the application documents.

Important: If the payment is made by another person, the payment order must nevertheless clearly identify the admission candidate.

2. In cash or by card

At the cashier’s office of “Dimitrie Cantemir” University of Târgu Mureș, Monday–Friday, between 08:00 and 14:00.

Enrolment

Candidates declared admitted may be enrolled only after completion of the applicable recognition/acceptance procedure:
• EU/EEA/Swiss citizens and other categories assimilated to them: CNRED Recognition/Equivalence Certificate;
• Non-EU / third-country nationals: Letter of Acceptance to Studies issued by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research.

At enrolment, candidates must submit the original documents required by the applicable legislation, pay the annual tuition fee and sign the study contract.

Romanians from Everywhere

Applicants belonging to the “Romanians from Everywhere” category are subject to a separate admission and study procedure under Romanian legislation. Please contact the Admission Office for information applicable to this category.
